The Fault in Our Stars Movie Review

I have watched this movie yesterday xD. I watched the midnight screening of this movie because I've read the book like six times (*I even have made the book review ). I was hoping that the movie will be just as good as the book is.

And to be honest, I was kinda disappointed by the movie, but at the same time, I love the movie. It's always complicated. But let's point out some things I dislike about the movie.

Maybe it's because the movie is so hyped that I let my hopes up. I thought it will be as good as the book. There are a lot of changes in the movie that I don't like. Like why they omitted this part and that part. But at least the story is still intact even though the movie is lack detail.

In my opinion, the movie just covered at least 60% of the book. There are a lot of things missing I lost count. Like how one of my favorite quote didn't made it to the movie ("You say you're not special because the world doesn't know about you. But that's an insult to me. I know about you."). I guess the world is not a wish-granting factory.

And I don't get how patrick called Augustus 'Gus' when they first met on the support group. How did he know that Augustus' nickname is Gus? It doesn't make any sense :/

And now, let's talk about the thing that I love about this movie. The casting is good. I think Shailene Woodley is the perfect Hazel Grace and Ansel Elgort is the perfect Augustus Waters. I love hazel's chemistry with her mom in this movie. It's heartwarming to see a relationship like hazel's and her mom.

There are a lot of funny things to laugh about in this movie. Like when Isaac egged Monica's car, the Night of the broken trophies, etc. Isaac is really a fun character in this movie.

I love the way they text. It's really unique, I never seen anything like that. And I also love the fact that they keep the conversation like the book. There are a lot of direct book quote, I can't help but recite 'em as I watch xD (*It's a  good thing that I watch this movie all by myself, I'll probably annoyed anyone who sit next to me.)

The maker of this movie is really concerned about the book fan, and he sorta win my heart over. If you read the book, you know that August's favorite band is called "The Hectic Glow". If you pay attention, you'll notice that there is a "The Hectic Glow" poster on Hazel's room.

And there is a detail that I wanted to point out. The shirt that Gus' wore when he met hazel for the first time is also the shirt that hazel wear when she heard the news that [SPOILER] [SPOILER].

The book is really really sad when you reached chapter 21. I cried reading the book, so I know how the movie will probably make me cry too. But I didn't cry as much as I thought I would, but yeah, I still shed a tear. I'm glad I brought some tissue~

All in all, the movie is still worth watching. But the book will always be better than the movie xD
