Movie Review : The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

I really want to watch to movie adaptation of this book, and I don't really want to make any effort to find the movie myself. But a few days ago, when I was browsing channel on TV, HBO will air it, so I'm thinking to myself, "Why not?"

My review will contain spoilers, and my review is usually just me retelling the whole story while telling the reader how much I love stuff. So please, bear with me...

The movie adaptation of this book started with the Dolphin thingy... which is great. The narrator is doing a great job and I think to myself how wonderful this movie is going to turn out. After that, the song that said "So long and thanks for all the fiah" came on and it was really awesome. I think I'll find the song later.

Anyway, the story progress to Arthur Dent. I think the actor who portrayed Arthur Dent is doing a pretty good job. The beginning of the movie is pretty much how I pictured the book when I read it. This movie is 80% accurate. There are a lot of direct book quote in the beginning of the movie. They use the original dialog when they reached the bar. Especially that quote about Thursday. One of my favorite quote from the book.

I'm really glad that the movie is quite as funny as the book is. That part when the Vogons demolished planet Earth? That's just as ridiculously funny as the book is. I think the movie delivered that part pretty well.

I love how The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy portrayed in the book. The visual graphic that is used to describe it is amazing. By the way, the narrator who narrated the story (*and the entry of the Guide) is really great too. I thought the Guide would look like Kindle or something, but I guess I'm wrong.

I love how they visualized the Vogons. The book has told me how hideous those creatures are, but seeing the movie version of the Vogons confirmed how hideous those creatures are. That part with the poetry reading? It's just like how I imagined it when I read the book. And then they sent them away to kick them out to the space. I wish they included the dialog about how Arthur Dent never listens to her mother, but unfortunately it's not in the movie. And I really hope that this dialog will be included in the movie :

" 'Ford.' he said, 'You're turning into a penguin. Stop it.' "
Douglas Adams, The Utimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, page 58.

But that part is not included in the movie either. They both just turned into a sofa :/

I'm glad that Zooey Deschanel portrayed Trillian. She looks really beautiful and intelligent too when she portrayed Trillian.

One of the best thing about this movie is Marvin. Why? Because it was Alan Rickman who voiced Marvin! It's just perfect!

I'm not quite sure if the movie change a lot of the story or not, because I mostly forgotten the story from the book. But I can tell that this movie is just as weird as the book is. And every important moment from the book is included in this movie, so I'm not disappointed at all.

So what do you think? Have you watched this movie?

Book review : Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

A photo posted by Winoko Christofel (@winoko21) on
Yet another great book that I've read this year. I really enjoy reading this book. I've finished reading this book in like two days. It's like the fastest book that I've read so far. My review will contain spoilers. Reader's discretion is advised.

Where do I start?

Okay. This book has been added to my reading list since last year, I guess? And I finally got my copy of this book for my birthday this year. I have a lot of book in my wishlish, and I'm also kind of indecisive about what book should I get next? I have no priority when I buy a book.

This book is written by Rainbow Rowell. The same author who wrote Fangirl.

I got the UK cover. I like this cover more than the US version.

Anyway, I've read the first three or four chapters from goodreads before I got myself the physical copy of this book. I really really love that kind of book who has more than one point of view. If I knew earlier that this book has two point of view, I maybe got the book sooner.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I read it in like two days. I love the story. I love all the characters in this book. And I love the settings too.

It's awkward to read the part when they met. Eleanor is all weird and Park didn't want to have anything to do with her, but she ended up sitting next to Park. But then they connected to each other through comic books and songs. This is like one of the best romance novel that I ever read. I usually dislike this kind of genre, but I'm really glad that I read this book.

I don't get the references about the songs.(*except The Beatles). This book is set in 1986 Omaha, so every single song that they talk about is not something that I know. But nevertheless, I can still enjoy this book.

I love the backstory of each character. Eleanor comes from a 'broken' family while Park comes from a happy family. Eleanor's family is so messed up. Her mother divorced, Eleanor has a lot of siblings, etc. While Park's family is the lovey-dovey one. His parents still make-out without concerning who's in the room.

There are a lot of moments from this book that's remarkable. When Park pick a fight with Steven. That's just awesome. But that's not why I write this review.

Let's talk about some event that happen in the end of the book (*and some moments before it.)

I didn't see that coming at all. When she come home to bits of comic, broken make up and a miles of tape, and when she found that writing on her box. Whoaa... This book turns into some creepy creeper story in seconds. My hearts beats faster when I read this part.

Then that part when they finally got to go to her uncle's house in some city whose name I forgot. It get's really sad so fast, I start crying. It's just so heartbreaking to see it end that way. And then there's a time when park just missing her so much.

But that ending is amazing. I'm actually really satisfied with that kind of ending. The three words...

At first, I thought that it was "I love you". People referred them as the three words. But then again, I think of it as "I'm coming back". I like it better that way. And then I look into some discussion in the internet and this is what they came up with :

"Wait for me"
"I'll be there"
"It's not goodbye"
"I'm Hans Solo"
"Nothing Ever Ends."
"come get me"
"You saved me"
"See you soon"
"no more eyeliner"
"That wasn't goodbye"

Which is great too...
The author explained the reader at the end of the book that she won't revealed what the three words are. But I think it's for the best. The reader can keep guessing what the words are. And look what the people on the Internet brought up.

Memorable quote :
"Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something."
Rainbow Rowell, Eleanor & Park, page 168
I guess that's it.

And I heard that the movie right of this book has been bought by someone. I can't wait to see the movie adaptation of this book.

What about you? Have you read this book? If so, leave some comment below xD

Book Review : Winger by Andrew Smith

I bought this book two months ago, and I finally have time to read it. This is that kind of book that I finish reading in a flash, the perfect candidate for my new favorite book. I think I beat my all-time-fastest-book-that-I've-read record with this book.

If you've read my review before, (*which I bet you haven't. Who in the world read my book review anyway?) you'll know that I can't make a spoiler-free review about anything. So, proceed with caution. SPOILER ALERT!!!

So here it goes,

I picked up this book because I heard a lot of good reviews about this book. I also saw a lot of pictures of this book in my instagram feed. The cover looks awesome, (*yup, I judge the book by its cover) so I bought it. I still need to finish the book that I was reading earlier, so I let this book abandoned in the shelf for a while.

I began reading this book on Monday. I'm hooked from the first time I read it. I really love this latin phrase :
And just like the caption said, I read like 150++ pages in one sitting.

I really love the main character. We're pretty much alike except the fact that he's good at sport and drawing. I totally can relate to Rean Dean West, (*that's a cool name for a main character). The main character in this book are great too. I really like Andrew Smith's writing style. I think he'll make it to my favorite-author-of-all-time list.

This book features a lot of profanity which is fine by me. But honestly, I actually enjoy that kind of book that feature profanity. And just like Ryan Dean, I didn't cuss unless it's in written form too. I don't know where I'm going with this, so I guess I'll finish this paragraph here.

I really love all the charts and comic strip in this book. The illustration fits the book perfectly. I never heard anyone mentioning the charts and the comic strip before, so when I stumble into one, I got really excited about it. The drawing are really cool. I wish I can draw.

I also love the fact that this book has short chapters. For me, chapters are like my checkpoint. With short chapter, I can pause reading the book every once in a while and I don't have to worry about where I left off because by default, I usually stop reading when I reach the end of a chapter.

I love this part where Ryan Dean and Annie exchange notes and the typeface that they use is different and it seems like an actual handwriting. And I also love the fact that the whole being-in-love thingy between Ryan Dean and Annie is not cheesy (*in my opinion). And I'm glad that it went well.

This book talks about rugby every once in a while. I'm not familiar with rugby terminology, but that's okay because the author explain all of that in his book so the reader can understand. If only the sports involved in this book is football, I would appreciate this book more because I'm familiar with football's terminology.

I like the story too. It is really funny. At some point when I read the book, I actually laughing out loud. Especially that part when Ryan Dean called his mother. That's really awkward and so funny.

There's only one thing that bugged me when I read the book. Ryan Dean overused some words : "I'm such a loser" and "skinny-ass-bitch". It was funny in the first 50 pages, but when I realized  that those words are repeated every a few pages, I scowl and hoping that I won't read that sentence again. Other than that, I have no complain.

So, this is why I wanted to make this book review in the first place. I want to discuss the ending. When I first read the synopsis, I thought to myself, "hmmm... this setting reminds me off John Green's Looking for Alaska". And in some point, it is indeed have some Looking for Alaska-esque kind of story.

When I reach part 4 of the book, I know that something was up. I'm feeling a bit nervous when I read this part. because I read some spoiler free reviews which stated that something terrible will happen in the end.
And when I reach page 429 in my paperback copy, I'm shocked by what I read there. I'm glad that I read alone, because at that exact moment, I just yelled "NO NO NO NO NOOOO!". And then I start crying. I'm such a loser. But I love this kind of book that fucked up your feeling. I can't stop thinking about it. for the rest of the day. Even right now when I write it, I still can't get my mind off it. I literally have to convince myself that this book is a work of fiction. But wow, it was amazing to read a book that can give me that sort of effect.

I guess that's it.

Memorable quote :
"You know, nothing ever goes back exactly the way it was. Things just expand and contract. Like the universe, like breathing. But you'll never fill your lungs up with the same air twice. Sometimes, it would be cool if you could pause and rewind and do over. But I think anyone would get tired of that after one or two times."

Andrew Smith, Winger, page 367 - 368

I heard that this book is going to be a series or something. The next book will be released next year titled Stand-Off. I can't wait to read it. I hope the sequel will be released soon.

So what about you? Have you read this book? What do you think?

Book Review : Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I started reading this book last night and I'm 100 pages in. This book is pretty enjoyable to read~

A photo posted by Winoko Christofel (@winoko21) on

I really want to write this book review the day I finished it, but I don't have the time. I have all the time in the world right now to write. And this post has been collecting dust in the draft for like a month before I actually post it. Don't forget that I usually write some spoilers about the book in this review. Reader's discretion is advised. So this is it ...

I enjoyed reading this book. I really do.And when I really enjoy a book, I read it in a flash of time. I consider myself as a slow reader. I never finish a book in a day. The fastest I ever read a book was when I read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I read it in three days. Fangirl? I read it in four days. I think I can actually read it in three days too, but I was sick so I can't beat my personal best record.

It's been awhile since I last write a book review, so it kinda hard to try writing one again xD

Here it goes,

The thing that I love the most from reading a young adult book is this, it relatively easy to read (*except for The Hunger Games trilogy, I think? ). And this book is no different.

I like the character. I think Cath is really relatable as a main character even though I'm not actually feel connected to her in anyway. I love her world that she live in. The world where Simon Snow is a thing. I imagine Simon Snow thingy as Harry Potter from the beginning of the book. The first page that I read is basically a slightly altered version of Wikipedia article about this whole Simon Snow stuff. It's really awesome! This whole fanfiction thingy is a really good thing to be a story.

I love the time setting. Freshmen year of College. I think I will totally related to this story more if I read it on my freshmen year. The awkward situation of not having any friend? I really understand that. Didn't get a proper lunch / dinner because she doesn't know the dining room and she has no one to ask? I can actually see myself in Cath's character x'D

I really like Cath's relationship with Reagan. I think it's really realistic. She's her roommate, and it's really awkward and anything, but as things progressed, she become Cath's friend. I really like reading about this kind of thing. Reagan and Cath is a totally different person. Cath is super shy while Reagan is that kind of outgoing person. Reagan is sorta cold, but she's actually a nice person. I like her confidence, and somehow Cath got some sort of her confidence too.

I really love Cath's relationship with her dad. The way she cares about him. All the phone calls that she made because she's worried about his being alone and anything. Especially that part when he's sick. It really breaks my heart when I'm reading about that one time when she come home after her dad is submitted to the hospital. That part when she cleaned the house, and she realized that if she's home, she can prevent this whole mess. A little manic is okay, but ... *sigh*

I'm really annoyed with Cath and Wren's relationship. If I have a twin brother, I will definitively hang out together at all times. Whenever I watch a movie or read a book that have a twin character, I was hoping that the twins will have that kind of cute relationship with each other, like Fred and George in Harry Potter. But at the beginning of the book, they're already separated. Like they're 'fighting' in some way. I don't really like Wren's character. She's like "I want to make a lot of friends and drink a lot of booze. Will you stay out my way, Cath?". Or when she won't even visit her father when he's sick? I really don't like her. Thankfully, things got better in the end.

Family is such a great deal in this book. Throughout the book, I was wondering what the deal is with her mother? where is she? Later on, we learned through various flashback that she left that family. Thus, leaving Cath with some sort of mommy issues. That explained why she really cared about her father so much.

Let's talk about Levi! I know that the whole internet is loving this character. For some reason, I don't. I'm not sure why either. I mean, he's like a good character. He smiles to literally everybody, and he's been a great friend (*and later on, boyfriend) to Cath. Maybe their relationship is too cute for my liking. It's too lovey-dovey to me. I just can't stand it. Is it maybe because I'm a guy? But I've read some romance book before, and I'm fine with them. It just feels awkward to read their story for me~

I actually like Cath's and Nick relationship in the beginning. But it all change when it seems like he's using her for his own good. And he indeed did that. I'm really glad to read the part when Cath refused to publish the story that they write together. I'm like "You get what you deserved, a******!".

I love all the references that Rainbow Rowell made throughout the book. I don't remember much, but I do remember that she made a Harry Potter reference! A book that made a Harry Potter reference is really cool in my opinion. (*Robyn Schneider also made a Harry Potter reference in her book... maybe someday I will write the review of that book too!).

The last point of this review. I literally made this review, solely because of this point. IT ENDS ABRUPTLY!!! IT ENDS WHEN I WANT TO READ MORE!!! IT'S REALLY ANNOYING!!! It leaves me with a lot of questions! What will happen with Cath and her biological mother? What will happen after she read the last book of Simon Snow? What will happen to her short stories? I know that she'll turn her short stories, because there's a page that stated that she won it. But I hate it that it ends like that. I want more closure, but that kind of ending gave me none. I literally got a massive book hangover after reading that last chapter. I keep thinking about the characters from this book, and I have to wait for two days before I start reading another book.

Memorable quote :
"The conversion was her favorite part. 'That moment', she told Cath, 'when you realize that a guy's looking at you differently - that you're taking up more space in his field of vision. That moment when you know he can't see past you anymore'. "
 Rainbow Rowell, Fangirl, page 35 - 36

It's a great book, I love the overall story, and the main character's relationship with every character. One of the most enjoyable book that I ever read. I'm thinking about reading another book from this author. I'm thinking about getting Eleanor & Park next month.

So, what about you? Have you read this book too?

The Maze Runner Movie Review

I watched this movie yesterday. I've been waiting for this movie for months and to be honest, I'm not as excited as I thought I will be, but nevertheless, I'm still excited to watch this movie adaptation of James Dashner's The Maze Runner.

My review will contain spoiler for both the book and the movie. Viewer discretion is advised.

Where do I start? hmmm... okay..
I'm usually have an unusual high expectation when it comes to a movie adaptation from a novel that I like. But by now, I have accept the fact that the book will always be better than its movie adaptation and the only way to actually enjoy the movie is simply by enjoying the movie as it is and not comparing it to the book. (*I'm still working on that, but I think I'm doing a pretty good job this time.)

I read the book last year. I bought the whole series on my birthday (*except for the prequel). The book was delivered one day before Christmas and I finished reading all of them on January. Since then, I've read like 14 book, so I didn't quite remember exactly how the story went.

I didn't say that it's the best books-to-movie adaptation (*for me, that title is reserved for Catching Fire), but it is the first time I've ever watch a movie adaptation and not disappointed by it. There are some changes of course, but let's talk about that later.

I love the fact that the movie captured all the momentous moment from the book into the movie. Every. Single. Thing. Ben's banishment, the night in the maze, "she's the last one ever" , the doors isn't closing, etc. I'm actually pretty impressed when I watched the part when they spend the night at the maze. It's true to the book. I really love it when the scene in the movie matches with the scene in my head when I read the book. The movie maker is doing a really great job on this movie.

I like the cast. Everyone's role is just perfect. Dylan O'Brien portrayed Thomas perfectly. Kaya Scodelario made a great Teresa, Thomas Brodie-Sangster made a great Newt, Ki hong Lee made a great Minho, Will Poulter made a great Gally and Blake Cooper made a perfect Chuck.

I was kinda hoping that Gally will be more annoying. Movie-Gally is kind of annoying but book-Gally is what you'll find on the dictionary when you look up the word 'prick'. But he's annoying enough, though.
I really like Chuck. He's just plain adorable...which made me really sad because I know what will happen to him at the end of the movie.

And let's talk about The Griever. This creature looks more menacing in the movie than the creature that I imagined when I read the book. I imagined the griever as a slug combined with some metal, but the movie interpretation of The Griever is really amazing. Slimy, mechanical, toothy, fast, and dangerous. Just like the book described it.

Thomas' dream sequence is also one of my favorite scene. A glimpse of Thomas' past which consist of the faces of the 'doctors' of some sort, the operating room, the futuristic equipment, and that woman who keep saying WICKED is good.

Okay, now I'll write the things that are missing  from the movie / changed from the book.

There isn't any memorable quote from the book, so there isn't any direct book quote that is used in the movie.

I've heard on the internet that the whole telepathy thing between Thomas and Teresa will not appear in the movie. I really hope that they did, though. It's one of the thing that I really like about the relationship between Teresa and Thomas.

And the ending of the movie is quite different in the book. They didn't solve the puzzle that is the pattern from the maze like they did in the book, but I like their alternative password for the maze's exit. And if I recall correctly, they should sliding down in some sort of a slide, but they didn't. It's just some minor thing, so it's not really matter to me anyway.

And in the book, when they finally find the exit, they stumble into a room and they saw a lot of guys in white coat watching  them from behind a glass. No interaction. But in the movie, they entered a room which is filled by the dead body of said guys in the white coat and then they watch this video of a woman explaining about the whole environment changes and a disease called The Flare. At the end of the video, she committed suicide (*that's pretty dark, but that scene is really good too). Then it's the scene when Chuck died.

When I watch the movie, I was kinda hoping that they will make some changes, like keeping chuck alive or something. But unfortunately, this movie is true to the book and just like the book, Gally killed Chuck in his attempt to kill Thomas. I knew that this is going to happen, but I really really hate the fact that Chuck
died when the help is almost there. So close, yet so far.

And then some soldier burst in and escort the survivors into a chopper (*instead of bus). And then the movie ended when when the woman who supposedly die by suicide called a meeting about the phase two of the trial. This ending that suggest that there's more of this story. I like this kind of ending. In the book, it ends when they're all 'held' in some sort of dormitory or something. Maybe it's better to end the movie just like the movie maker intended.

I heard that The Scorch Trial is already on production, I can't wait to watch the sequel.

So that's it, my review to The Maze Runner movie. Have you watched it? What do you think about the movie?

untitled.txt

I clearly have problems, and I don't know who I'm going to share this with. So I decided to post it on my blog. I'm sorta furious about something, so please pardon my french.

I learned the hard way that you just can't please everyone. Sometimes, there's this jerk who just hate your guts. This jerk just hate you for something that you can't even understand and whatever you do to fix that will make the situation even worse. These kind of people is the worst.
The only solution that I come up is this : Just pray to god that whatever circumstances that brought the two of you together will pass, and avoid these jerks at all time.

There's this prick who appear to like you, but talk shit about you behind your back. These guys can go fuck yourself. You're the reason that I have some sort of trust issues. If you dislike someone, just tell them. If you pretend to be their friend, the guy that you hate will think that you like him, thus spending more time with you. And the more time they spend with you, the more reason for you to hate him. This whole thing won't happen if you established your friendship early on. You'll save everyone's time.

And there's this fucktard who tried to change you. They talk shit about the thing that you like and they want you to change. They actually like you, but they hate everything that you like and s/he want you to change it for them? Fuck that. I can like whatever I wanted to like, I can listen to whatever songs that appeal to my ears, and I can read whatever book that I want to read. Don't tell me what to do!

There's also this guy who appear to dislike you, but s/he's to polite to point out to you. Just take a few hint that these guys just don't want your presence, and spend less time with these guys. You'll both will be glad that you did.

Those guys who liked you simply because you're an valuable asset for them? Unfortunately, these bastards existed too... After you gave them what they need, POOF! They will disappear. But at least they treat you somewhat better than the other guys that I listed above.

I believe that everything in this world is 'balanced' somehow.
Those guys who just being kind with you for no reason? They exist too...
Those guys who pretend to hate you but they secretly like you? They exist too...
Those guys who like you for who you are? These guys are rare, but they exist too...
Those guys who will help you without expecting stuff in return? They exist too...
Those guys who will laugh at your dumbest joke? They exist too..

And if you can find any of these guys? Keep them. Surround yourself with the person who embrace who you are. After all, A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself (*A quote from Jim Morrison).

I guess that's all.
Bye.

Info : Hati2 sama phising sites!

Nih silahkan dibaca xD

I originally posted it on my facebook account :

"Jadi tadi pagi gw dapet email dari Bank mandiri, katanya gw disuruh upgrade account gw. But the funny thing is, I don't even have a bank account there, or anywhere for that matter! Ini aja klo belanja online masih nitip transfer sama bokap xD
Jadi dari awal gw buka email, gw udah yakin banget klo ini cuma salah satu trik penipuan.

Any way, itu email nya udah gw lampirin di sini.

http://othmanagement.com/img/colors/blue/ibm.bankmandiri.co.id//
http://othmanagement.com/images/prettyPhoto/default/bankmandiri.co.id/

Jadi korban nya merasa gak sadar klo udah ditipu .__.

Movie Review : Cloud Atlas

Well yesterday, I posted here with the help of my goodreads account, a book review of Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. I promised to myself that I will watch its movie adaptation as soon as I finished the book. I kept that promise today. I did not intend to make the movie review as well, but my mind is swarming with ideas to write such thing. I can never write a spoiler-free review. Readers discretion is advised.

So here it is...

Where do I begin?

As I told my twitter follower earlier, I'm glad that I read the book first before watching its movie adaptation. The book is written in the following order:

The first half of Adam Ewing's Journal >>> Robert Frobisher's Letter >>> The first part of Luisa Rey's Novel >>> The first part of Timothy Cavendish Movie >>> 50% of the Sonmi-451 Interview >>> Zachry's Yarnin' >>> The rest of Sonmi-451 Interview >>> The remaining Timothy Cavendish Movie >>> The second part of Luisa Rey's novel >>> The rest of Robert Frobisher letter >>> The second half of Adam Ewing's Journal.

...which is why I enjoyed the movie more after reading the book. In the movie, all of that chapter is ... blended into one story when the book separate it into six stories that intertwine with the one before / after them.

The movie will be difficult to understand to those guys who haven't read the book yet because there's a lot of thing going on and a numerous amount of characters. The funny thing is, the character in the movie is portrayed by the same actor over and over again xD The selection of the actors and the actresses is pretty good too.

In the movie, they keep switching over the stories. I guess most people will find it hard to follow the story. In fact, in the forum where I err… ‘borrowed’ this movie, most of guys commented how difficult it is to follow the story. Some of them needs to watch this movie over and over again and some of them didn’t even bother watching it till the end because he/she is too frustrated by the movie.

And as for me? I quite enjoying the movie. I’m accustomed to the style of language that the Valleyman use, or the archaic words that is used in Adam Ewing’s story. Some glorious scenes in the movie matched the imagination that I made when reading the book. The thing that I love the most about watching the movie adaptation of my favorite book? It’s when they use the original / slightly-altered passage in the book into their dialogue. The sound of the direct book quote is a music to my ears.

The movie made some changes to the story (*just like all the other movie adaptation from the books are.) Sometimes I enjoy the minor changes, but a major one, I don’t. Like, come on… Robery Frobisher killed Vyvyan Ayrs? And why did you butchered the Sonmi-451 story? That part of the story is more action-packed than in the book. But I guess that’s the only major change in the movie adaptation that I object.
I realized that there are a lot of missing character in the movie, and there are a lot of plot omission as well. But I get it, they can’t get it all in the movie. I think it’s hard enough to condensed a 500 pages book into a two-and-a-half hour movie. But at least the scenes in the book that I would like to watch is not omitted. Like when the author of the Knuckle Sandwich threw that critic out of the balcony. They even show us the fall. (*it’s gratuitously gory, but it’s really interesting to watch such thing. Most of the movie won’t show us the moment when the body hits the ground. This movie is awesome!). Or when he finally escaped Aurora House by crashing the car into the gate. And the most glorious moment is when they’re in the bar. I find it hard to imagine this scene when I read the book, and I’m glad that the movie adaptation enlightened me. The bar fight is just a really great scene. Especially when that guy smashed a keg of wine into Nurse Noakes head.  I think The Ghastly Ordeal of Timothy Cavendish is the best story to be executed in the movie. I’m glad that in the movie, Timothy ended up with Ursula. (*I don’t quite recall what happened in the book because I’m in such a hurry to finish it, I guess.)

Some of the best part of Luisa Rey’s story are when Bill Smole killed Dr. Sixsmith, the exploding plane, and also when Luisa Rey’s VW hits the water. Those scenes are awesome. But the most satisfying scene from this story is when that Spanish woman smashed Bill Smoke’s head with… err… a wrench? It just exactly like that book and that’s just awesome xD I’m a bit disappointed that Fen Li is omitted in the movie. She’s supposed to be blown to bits before the whole the whole chasing begun. But at least the end of Luisa Rey’s story is just like the book.

Zachry’s story is pretty good too. The way that they talked is the same as the writing in the novel. They represented the Old Georgie as an actual person, and that’s actually a great idea xD But the way they represent old georgie is different than mine. I’m picturing old georgie in a more grotesque way. The way they picture it? It looks more like Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with more make-up in his face. There are a lot of changes in this story, but overall, I still like it. At least they didn’t ruin the story as much. The augurin is different, thus the story is going in a different way. They totally omit the part when the kona tribe attacked them during a barter and captured the valleymen to enslave ‘em. But Meronym’s awesome gun of massive destruction made its appearance in the movie, so I’m not disappointed at all. But I’m disappointed that the kona soldier who died in such ludicrous way of accidentally shoot himself in thehead because he didn’t know how to use the gun didn’t make it in the movie adaptation. It seems like Zachry and the rest of the Prescients made their way to some other planet to live.
“Which one is the earth?” asked Zachry’s grandson. Apparently, Zachry is married to Meronym. The Planet they live in have two moon. The way Zachry’s story concluded is better from the book, I guess.

Adam Ewing’s story is more complex in the book. Mostly because the book use a lot of archaic words in it and I don’t understand it. But seriously, it’s really hard to understand the first 39 pages of the book, I almost give up reading that book. They only show us the essential of the story about how Dr. Henry Goose actually just poisoning Adam Ewing for his treasure. They did not mention anything about the evangelical thing. But I think that the movie got carried away, because Dr. Goose is not supposed to be killed by anyone :|

Robert Frobisher story is ruined by a murder. Robert Frobisher is not supposed to kill anyone but himself in the book. And the omission of Eva and the musical police is yet another disappointment to me. When I read the book, I was surprised that R.F. killed himself in his last letter. But in the movie, they already revealed that he’s going to kill himself from the start of the movie.  But at least the scene where he saw sixsmith is not omitted from the movie. And oh! The close atlas sextet is a real deal!

The only thing that I didn’t like from this movie is how they present us the Sonmi-451’s story. They completely omit the part when Sonmi-451 is just a plaything for that boy. Or the part when Sonmi learn things from her Sony. Yoona-939 death’s is more interesting in the book than in the movie. But I guess it’s quite alright. This part of the story is too action packed. I’m looking forward to the part when they show her the xultation. It’s as horrible as I imagine it in my head when I read the book. The way they end sonmi’s story is just sad. I don’t want to watch the xecution, to be honest. But that’s also an interesting thing to watch.

The book ended with Adam Ewing. But the movie ended with Zachry.

I guess that’s all I wanted to say about this movie. Read the book first before you watch its movie adaptation. So maybe we can discuss this kind of thing in the future xD
Alright then, bye…

Book Review: Cloud Atlas

Cloud Atlas
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first review that I ever written in Goodreads. English is not my first language so please bear with me xD

It was such a difficult read at first. I need to go back and forth between the book and dictionary for the first 39 pages. The story gets better by the time I reached Robert Frobisher's chapter. I really love how the story intertwine with the next story, like a Matryoshka. Adam Ewing's chapter is just a journal in Robert Frobisher's letter. Robert Frobisher's letter is just a part of Luisa Rey's chapter. Luisa Rey's chapter is just a novel in Timothy Cavendish chapter. Timothy Cavendish chapter is just a movie in Sonmi-451's chapter. And Sonmi is valleyman's God in Zachry's chapter.

The style of writing of this book is different for every chapter. The way it's written, and everything. It's kind of irritating to read some chapter... Like Adam Ewing's chapter for the amount of archaic words that's used in this chapter. Or Zachry's chapter in which the chapter written with so many apostrophes and the use of 'wrong' words... (*telled instead of told, knowed instead of knew, badder instead of worse, etc.) After a few pages of reading Zachry's chapter, I just realized that 'un' is equivalent to 'one'. I need to reread the whole thing again :/

I enjoyed reading Luisa Rey's and Timothy Cavendish chapter the most because the style of writing is pretty 'ordinary' and I'm accustomed to read such text.

I love how cool sonmi-451's chapter is. Removing every 'e' before the letter 'x' is a brilliant idea. xcited. xultation. xpect. xec. Those words sounds cooler and more... futuristic I suppose?
I also notice how the writer change the word 'light' into 'lite'.

The end of the chapter is always end in a cliffhanger (*except in Zachry's chapter), which is good because it keep my curiosity alive and drive me to keep reading.

After the Zachry's chapter end, the other chapter ends too and they linked to each other. I think it's awesome to read how a story is connected to each other. How the character in the book is as curious about the tale as the reader is. Sonmi-451 want to continue watching Timothy Cavendish disney, Timothy Cavendish want to read the rest of Luisa Rey's novel, Luisa Rey's want to read the rest of Robert Frobisher's letter and Robert Frobisher sent the rest of Adam Ewing's journal for Sixsmith to read.

It was such a great reading experience. It feels like I'm reading six different book and living six different lives, in six different eras. This book never bore me... (*after the page 39 that is..)
It's book about life and death, good and evil, justice, humanity, greed, love and life. So many aspects, so many things to learn from it. Such a great book. I hope everyone will enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed it xD

Here's my thought on : Music

I'm really glad that the last lecturer who taught the softskill subject gave us the freedom to write whatever we want and now I feel like I'm encouraged to write more~

*it's funny how I have all this thought in my head but when I tried to pour it into text, they're gone*

*rummaging inside my head*

...

...

*wait for it*

...

...

...

I guess I found it...

We're all like music, don't we? But we're all like different kind of music. What are the odds to find someone who have the same exact music in their music player as yours? Really close to zero; highly unlikely.

That's why the music in my library fall into two category : 'songs I like because most people like it' and 'songs that I genuinely like'

I don't know why, but I feel like I'm obliged to like other people's song. I'm that kind of person who cares about what people think about me. I know how silly it must sounds, but I can't help it. "Maybe if I listen the same kind of songs they listen, it'll be easier for me to make friends.", that's what I thought. Even so, I can't just like every song that I heard. As it turn out, I'm too picky when it comes to music .__.
In the end, I just used someone else's music preferences to see whether it matches mine.

But there's also some kind of music that I discovered by myself, not because someone else like it. But the music that falls into this category is also the kind of music that nobody talks about. The anti-mainstream songs .__.

What is your favorite song from Fun.?
Most people will answer We Are Young or Some Nights.
My answer? It's rather complicated. It's either The Gambler, Sight of the Sun, or Be Calm.

That's just an example about how different my music taste is (*but maybe not that different.). Most people will associate Fun. with only those two famous songs but not me. One of my favorite song from Fun. is in the first album that most people never heard about .__.

You will never understand this kind of personal relationship with music if you never found that kind of song xD

Well, I guess that's it.What about you? Do you have any uncommon music that make you feels like you're the only person in the planet who listen to that song?

Reading!

This post has been lingering in my draft for quite some time. I think it's time to publish this post xD

My current hobby at the moment is reading. My hobby is always changing over time. I used to collect DVDs of animated movies in the elementary school. Then on the 6th grade, I collected manga. On the 9th grade, I collected mini pc games. That kind of lame game which got either 'Dash' or 'Rush' on its title. On the 10th grade, I collected a numerous amount of Rubik's cube and its variation until 11th grade. On 12th grade, I collected some of the American TV show. And since the second semester of my freshmen year on college, I started this new hobby. Reading. And not just any book, English Novels (*you see, my native language is Indonesian). I'm not even sure how I can end up with this hobby, but here's how :

On my freshmen year of high school, I have this huge obsession toward this American TV show named Glee. I've watched all the episodes from season 1 until the latest episode at the moment. I heard that someone is going to make a novel which based on my favorite TV show, so yeah, I definitely going to buy it. And because I'm being so pretentious, I decided to get the English version of it. Glee: The Beginning is the first English novel that I bought. I thought I had enough vocabulary to read an English novel, but I was really really wrong. I need to go back and forth between the book and the dictionary at times when I encountered some English words that I never heard before. Nevertheless, I manage to finish the book. It was the first ever novel that I finished reading. Then the year after, I bought the sequel of that novel. For some reason, I didn't finish reading that book .__.

On my senior year of high school, my friends and I are obsessed with this website, 9GAG. We basically spent a copious amount of time browsing that site at home and then discussing all the images that we found funny at school. One day, I stumbled upon this post about a peculiar book, House of Leaves. The images itself has made me interested enough with the book, then I read the comment section. There's this comment from someone who had read the book and he said, "The book uses different fonts, lay out, size of the text, mirrored text and sometimes different languages all according to the story. For example, if the person enters a very small hallway, the text becomes very narrow, different storyline all continue spread out through the book. If you read this, you will often find yourself turning the book upside down, using a mirror to read things, constantly go back and forth to look up things. You will indeed get weird looks if you read this in public...".

I have to buy this book!!! And later, I find out that the book store where I bought my first English novel ever have an online store. So I start looking for that book, and yes! They sell that book! Long story short, I bought the book. It cost me IDR 232.000 and a month of waiting, but it was worth it. (*I even finished the book that I mentioned earlier to warm up before reading that book.). The book is MASSIVE.  It's 709 pages long. It took me a week to finish that book with my limited vocabulary. It's the most treasured book in my collection until now xD

After I finish the book, I want to read more books! House of leaves just sparked my book addiction. And I always have this idea of owning the whole Harry Potter Series for a long time but I never thought that I can make that happen. (*and yeah, I know that the books has been turned into several movies. But still, they said that the book is better than the movie. I just want to confirm that statement.). After some mild consideration, I think to myself, "I think I can afford it.". So yeah, I'm starting to collect books xD

I've bought (*and read) Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games Trilogy, John Green book's, Divergent Trilogy, The Maze Runner, and several stand alone books so far. I hope this hobby will last for quite a long time. Who knows that reading books can be a fun activity? xD

The Fault in Our Stars Movie Review

I have watched this movie yesterday xD. I watched the midnight screening of this movie because I've read the book like six times (*I even have made the book review ). I was hoping that the movie will be just as good as the book is.

And to be honest, I was kinda disappointed by the movie, but at the same time, I love the movie. It's always complicated. But let's point out some things I dislike about the movie.

Maybe it's because the movie is so hyped that I let my hopes up. I thought it will be as good as the book. There are a lot of changes in the movie that I don't like. Like why they omitted this part and that part. But at least the story is still intact even though the movie is lack detail.

In my opinion, the movie just covered at least 60% of the book. There are a lot of things missing I lost count. Like how one of my favorite quote didn't made it to the movie ("You say you're not special because the world doesn't know about you. But that's an insult to me. I know about you."). I guess the world is not a wish-granting factory.

And I don't get how patrick called Augustus 'Gus' when they first met on the support group. How did he know that Augustus' nickname is Gus? It doesn't make any sense :/

And now, let's talk about the thing that I love about this movie. The casting is good. I think Shailene Woodley is the perfect Hazel Grace and Ansel Elgort is the perfect Augustus Waters. I love hazel's chemistry with her mom in this movie. It's heartwarming to see a relationship like hazel's and her mom.

There are a lot of funny things to laugh about in this movie. Like when Isaac egged Monica's car, the Night of the broken trophies, etc. Isaac is really a fun character in this movie.

I love the way they text. It's really unique, I never seen anything like that. And I also love the fact that they keep the conversation like the book. There are a lot of direct book quote, I can't help but recite 'em as I watch xD (*It's a  good thing that I watch this movie all by myself, I'll probably annoyed anyone who sit next to me.)

The maker of this movie is really concerned about the book fan, and he sorta win my heart over. If you read the book, you know that August's favorite band is called "The Hectic Glow". If you pay attention, you'll notice that there is a "The Hectic Glow" poster on Hazel's room.

And there is a detail that I wanted to point out. The shirt that Gus' wore when he met hazel for the first time is also the shirt that hazel wear when she heard the news that [SPOILER] [SPOILER].

The book is really really sad when you reached chapter 21. I cried reading the book, so I know how the movie will probably make me cry too. But I didn't cry as much as I thought I would, but yeah, I still shed a tear. I'm glad I brought some tissue~

All in all, the movie is still worth watching. But the book will always be better than the movie xD

Book recommendation!

Last year, I got myself into this hobby : reading. I have the explanation about how I begin to read books and stuff in my draft that I might post it here too, but for this post, I just want to make a book recommendation based on the books that I've read.

So here it is :

1. It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

Synopsis : "Like many ambitious New York City teenagers, Craig Gilner sees entry into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School as the ticket to his future. Determined to succeed at life-which means getting into the right high school to get into the right college to get the right job-Craig studies night and day to ace the entrance exam, and does. That's when things start to get crazy.

At his new school, Craig realizes that he isn't brilliant compared to the other kids; he's just average, and maybe not even that. He soon sees his once-perfect future crumbling away. The stress becomes unbearable and Craig stops eating and sleeping-until, one night, he nearly kills himself.

Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, isolated from the crushing pressures of school and friends, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.

Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a remarkably moving tale about the sometimes unexpected road to happiness. For a novel about depression, it's definitely a funny story."

Why you should read it : Read this book when you need a reason to live.Sometimes everything isn't going your way and death seems to be the best form of escapism. But that's not entirely true, because we have the power to choose what we do with our live.

Memorable Quote :

"... but then I decided I didn't want any regrets. I'm done with those; regrets are an excuse for people who have failed." Ned Vizzini, It's Kind of a Funny Story, page 355

2. The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom

Synopsis : "From the author who's inspired millions worldwide with books like Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven comes his most imaginative novel yet, The Time Keeper--a compelling fable about the first man on Earth to count the hours.

The man who became Father Time.

In Mitch Albom's newest work of fiction, the inventor of the world's first clock is punished for trying to measure God's greatest gift. He is banished to a cave for centuries and forced to listen to the voices of all who come after him seeking more days, more years.

Eventually, with his soul nearly broken, Father Time is granted his freedom, along with a magical hourglass and a mission: a chance to redeem himself by teaching two earthly people the true meaning of time.

He returns to our world--now dominated by the hour-counting he so innocently began--and commences a journey with two unlikely partners: one a teenage girl who is about to give up on life, the other a wealthy old businessman who wants to live forever. To save himself, he must save them both. And stop the world to do so.

Told in Albom's signature spare, evocative prose, this remarkably original tale will inspire readers everywhere to reconsider their own notions of time, how they spend it, and how precious it truly is."

Why you should read this : This book will make you appreciate the time. For no one in this world can ask for more time nor ask for less.

Memorable Quote :
"We all yearn for what we have lost. But sometimes, we forgot what we have." Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper, page 133

3. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Synopsis : "A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows."

Why you should read this : This book is really interesting because the author put some eerie old photograph to complement his story. The photograph connects to the story very well, and this book is really great for those guys who want to read a book with pictures in it.

Memorable Quote :
" I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was." Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, page 351

4. The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider

Synopsis : "Varsity tennis captain, Ezra Faulkner, was supposed to be homecoming king, but that was before—before his girlfriend cheated on him, before a car accident shattered his leg, and before he fell in love with unpredictable new girl Cassidy Thorpe.
As Kirkus Reviews said in a starred review, "Schneider takes familiar stereotypes and infuses them with plenty of depth. Here are teens who could easily trade barbs and double entendres with the characters that fill John Green's novels."
Funny, smart, and including everything from flash mobs to blanket forts to a poodle who just might be the reincarnation of Jay Gatsby, The Beginning of Everything is a refreshing contemporary twist on the classic coming-of-age novel—a heart-wrenching story about how difficult it is to play the part that people expect, and how new beginnings can stem from abrupt and tragic endings."

Why you should read this : This book remind us that things may change in an instant and even the bad thing may not always lead to something terrible, it can also lead you to something that's better from before. This book also remind us that it's okay to be our self.

Memorable Quote :
"But we're the ones who choose, in the end, how people see us." Robyn schneider, The Beginning of Everything, page 330

5. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

Synopsis : "Years ago, when House of Leaves was first being passed around, it was nothing more than a badly bundled heap of paper, parts of which would occasionally surface on the Internet. No one could have anticipated the small but devoted following this terrifying story would soon command. Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth -- musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies -- the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children.

Now, for the first time, this astonishing novel is made available in book form, complete with the original colored words, vertical footnotes, and newly added second and third appendices.

The story remains unchanged, focusing on a young family that moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

Of course, neither Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Will Navidson nor his companion Karen Green was prepared to face the consequences of that impossibility, until the day their two little children wandered off and their voices eerily began to return another story -- of creature darkness, of an ever-growing abyss behind a closet door, and of that unholy growl which soon enough would tear through their walls and consume all their dreams."

Why you should read this : You'll get funny look if you read this book in public. Sometime you have to turn the page upside down, use a mirror, etc. This book is really unique. For some reason, the word "house" is always printed in blue, and there also some passages that looks like this. Curious? Take a look at this book by following this link → >>>Click Me!<<<

Memorable Quote :
“We all create stories to protect ourselves.” Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves, page 20

I guess that's it for now. I hope my book recommendation will pique your interest in reading xD

Book review : The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

This post will be my first ever book review that I ever post. I hope you'll like it.

The Fault in Our Stars is the fourth novel by author John Green, published in January 2012. The title is inspired by a famous line from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar (Act 1, scene 2). The nobleman Cassius says to Brutus, 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.' This book is one of my favorite book of all time.I've read this book three times and I'm currently rereading it for the fourth times.

The author of this book has written four books before writing The Fault in Our Stars. Two of his previous books won Michael L. Printz Award. They are "An Abundance of Katherines" and "Looking for Alaska". John Green is also included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People list.

This is the part when I'll try to summarize this book. I will try my best to not spoil the book xD
The story is revolved around Hazel Grace who has cancer. Her mom that hazel is depressed and she told her to get to this support group. That's when she met Augustus Waters and her story is completely rewritten.(*I would write more about the story, but I'll definitely spoil the book for you, so yeah, I think I'll keep it short)

The characters of this book are lovable even though some of them are a bit pretentious, but that's okay. This book has a lot of witty remark, yet another reason to love this book. This book is such a page turner, I can actually finish reading this book if I want to. This book also get deep sometimes, and this book is filled with profound quotes.

There are a lot of quotation from this book that I really love. This is some of them :
"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you." John Green, The Fault in Our Stars, page 313

"You are going to live a good and long life filled with great and terrible moment that you cannot even imagine yet!" John Green, The Fault in Our Stars, page 272

"My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations." John Green, The Fault in Our Stars, page 311

This book is published by Dutton Books. ISBN 978-0-525-42600-4. The price of this book is $ 9.99

This book's movie adaptation will be released on June 6th 2014 in America. It will be released in Indonesia too on August 22nd 2014. Here's the trailer :

"A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself." - Jim Morrison

"Stop thinking all the time that you're in the way, that you're bothering the person next to you. If people don't like it, they can complain. And if they don't have the courage to complain, that's their problem." Paulo Coelho, Veronika Decides to Die, page 98

Tugas TOU2 Minggu Ke-1 : Teamwork.

Divergent movie review~

So last Saturday, I watched the highly anticipated movie adaptation of Divergent which is based on Veronica Roth's Divergent Trilogy.

Here's the proof.

I have mixed feeling after watching the movie and I want to talk a lot about it. I intend to post my rant thought(s) on twitter, but I think it will be annoyingly long for my follower to read and I'm afraid I'll spoil the movie for them, so yeah, I think I'll blog it instead. This blog post will be inordinately long .__.

WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!
======================================================
This so-called review will contain spoiler(s) from the books and also the movie!!! If you haven't watched the movie, do not proceed!!! I repeat, This so-called review will contain spoiler(s) from the books and also the movie!!! If you haven't watched the movie, do not proceed!!! I will also rant about how different the movie is from the book!! You've been warned!!
======================================================
WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!

So here it goes,

The movie started with an explanation regarding the war and the faction system. After the war, the society is divided to five different factions. They are : Abnegation (the selfless one), Amity (the peaceful one), Candor (the honest one), Dauntless (the brave one), and Erudite (the smart one).
I think the costume department done a great job in this part, I really really like the outfit of Candor and Erudite's. The Dauntless outfit reached my expectation, black leather jacket and whatever. No surprise there. The abnegation outfit is duller that I expected it to be. And the least favorite outfit of my liking is Amity's. It looks more orange than the red-yellow outfit that Veronica Roth described in her book.

After the brief explanation of the faction, the movie started to visualize the book from chapter 1. It started with Beatrice who get her hair cut by her mother. I think Sheilene Woodley is a great actress to portray Beatrice Prior xD After she get her hair cut, they chatted about the aptitude test that she'll take that day. Let's skip to the aptitude test part.

The 16 years old are lined up in front of a building (that supposed to be the school, but the movie doesn't mention it). They lined up according to their faction. During the line up, we'll see a candor boy who taunt the abnegation kid. This is the first time we meet Peter in the movie. Amity, Candor, Erudite and Abnegation was lining up when the Dauntless arrived by trains. I like this scene when the Dauntless cheered and jumped from a moving train. (The Dauntless faction is basically a group of adrenaline junkies.) Then they all proceed to a room where they get a briefing regarding the aptitude test.

Beatrice aptitude test scene is one of the scene that I'm excited to see! She entered the room that exactly appeared like the room that described in the book. Then she met Tori. The movie omitted their conversation though. Then she drank the clear liquid and the test begin.  This is quite the same like the book, but they didn't include the bus part. Then Beatrice wake up and Tori told her that she's Divergent and don't tell anyone about this and told her to go home.

She is supposed to share food and have a conversation with a factionless man on her way home, but no, that part is omitted.

And then the Prior family ate dinner. The light in their dining room is dim, I never imagine the abnegation home to be that dark. They talk about the aptitude test during dinner and something about Erudite. After the dinner, there's this scene where they hugged each other before they're going to sleep. And then Beatrice and Caleb have a conversation in the kitchen about how they should think about their family but they also need to think about themselves. Direct book quote!!!

Then come the Choosing Ceremony! FACTION BEFORE BLOOD! I really enjoyed this part... This part is true to the book. Caleb transfered to Erudite. Beatrice hesitantly transfered to Dauntless. And the horror of their parents face. The movie didn't explain the elements of the bowl though..

Right after the choosing ceremony ended, Beatrice and her new faction ran and cheered in the hallway. I love the energy! Then they climb a metal structure to get to a platform where they literally catch the train. They started running toward the moving train and they get in. That's where Beatrice met Christina. Then they all jumped from the moving train to a roof. That's really awesome! Too bad the panicky amity boy who didn't jump the train and the dauntless girl who fail to reach the roof (and died) aren't included in the movie.

Then there's the part where they need to jump from the roof to get to Dauntless headquarters. I find it hard to visualize this part when I read the book. The movie did a great job in this part! She jumped and then the net caught her. Then she met Four for the first time and she changed her name to Tris.

[ I sorta forget the exact order of the initiation process, so yeah, this part will be written haphazardly]

Then they start the initiation process. They separated the dauntless-born and the transfer. After that, the initiates have lunch. The initiates showed us the trait of their old faction. Will the know-it-all-Erudite will make a remark on a random fact and Christina the straightforward-Candor will say whatever she wanted to say. When they finished lunch, the dauntless faction make a raucous cheer while they clank the metal glass. Then Max the Dauntless leader showed up to make a speech which include another direct book quote from the Dauntless manifesto : "We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.". My favorite line from the book xD

The first stage of the initiation is hand-to-hand combat. They introduced this douchiest character in the movie, Eric.He supervise the initiation process with Four. The initiate must fight until one of them can't continue. I don't really like this part to be honest. Especially when Tris beaten up by this female character that somehow have no name. I suppose it's molly, but nobody mentioned that name :|

I love that part when Tris got her tattoos. The tattoo machine looks so futuristic and awesome. I wish the movie explained what the tattoos mean to Tris, but hey, that's what the book is for.

The initiation process is quite different from the book. The leaderboard of the dauntless-born and the transfer is supposed to be separated :| And it supposed to be written manually with a chalk in the blackboard. Regardless, the screen that showed the leaderboard seems futuristically awesome. [Fun Fact : Even though Uriah omitted from the movie, his name can be seen in the leader-board.]

Then the infamous knife throwing scene! That's PERFECT! It happened exactly like how I imagined them when I read the book.

I also loved the Ferris wheel scene during the capture-the-flag! This is one of the scene that I'm waiting for! It's true to the book, so I'm really happy to actually see this part. The part when Tris got the flag is a great scene too...

Right after the capture-the-flag game, when they get back to the dauntless headquarter, a random kid invited Tris to try ziplining. (*It supposed to be Uriah's job to do so, but his character isn't included in the movie yet...). They gathered to this tall building, and then they zipline head-first~ This scene is just breathtaking... This scene would be more awesome if they included the human net to this scene.

Despite all the excitement in the beginning of the movie, I'm quite disappointed that the part where Peter stabbed Edward's eye with a butter knife is omitted in the movie... [*maybe that part is too disturbing for the audience.. that make sense] [**and I just realized that there's no character named Edward in the movie :| ][***EDIT : I just found out that they actually filmed that infamous scene. But that scene is not in the final cut because, as I expect it before, it's a PG-13 movie and they can't show this kind of scene to the audience.] Or the part where peter yanked Tris' towel in the dorm on the visiting day [*I think it's omitted for obvious reason]. And this part when Four was drunk. These are just a minor scene that's okay to be omitted in the movie, though.

But my biggest disappointment in this movie is when they omitted the visiting day!!! I mean, that part is the most crucial part of the story!!! In the book, Tris is supposed to meet her mother in the visiting day. Her mother who knew that she is divergent is supposed to instruct her to find Caleb and have him researched this simulation serum. And in the end of the conversation, she asked her to have a piece of dauntless chocolate cake for her, which suggest the reader that her mother herself was dauntless. [She's also supposed to meet Will's sister, Cara... but yeah, she didn't.] In the movie, there's no visiting day! She surreptitiously met her mother in a discrete place in which she told her that she has known that she's divergent. But that was it, there are no mention about the simulation serum. Then Tris took the train to the see Caleb for no apparent reason. It was clear in the book that she visit Caleb to have him researched this simulation serum, but in the movie, there's no reason for her to see him. And then she came home safely with no problem afterward :|

The part when the boys tried to throw Tris into the chasm is exciting! Tris recognized Al's scent in the book, but that's impossible to visualize in the movie, so Tris grabbed one of the mask and revealed Al's face in the movie. It will make a shocking effect for those who haven't read the book, which is awesome. And then Four came and save the day, which is also awesome.

After the incident, Four take Tris to his place and he take care of her wound. And that's when I hear another direct book quote : "Fear doesn't shut you down; it wakes you up. I've seen it.". And there's also this part when Tris want to see Four's tattoos. I think that part is pretty accurate too... That he don't want to be just brave... He wants to be brave and smart and honest and selfless and kind. Although he's still working on the kind part. Whoever made that tattoo for Four deserve a raise because that tattoo looks incredible.

The closer we are to the end of the movie, the more death you'll see. The first one is Al's suicide. After the kidnapping incident, Al tried to apologize to Tris, but Tris didn't forgive him. And the next thing you know, some of the adult dauntless is pulling a rope with Al's body on the other end of the rope.Al jumped into the chasm to end his life.In the book, the dauntless celebrate Al's death as an act of bravery. I was hoping to see that part to be visualized in the movie, but this part is omitted too...

Let's move on to the next subject, which is the second part of the initiation, : The Fear Landscape. The movie visualized this part magnificently. The birds and the box filled with water... This part is just awesome. But Tris is supposed to have six fears, but they only showed five of it. Four's fear landscape is correct though... ( height, confinement, killing an innocent and his father. They visualized it nicely!). What's lacking in this part is a proper explanation about how many fears most people have. If they knew that most people have like 15 fears or something, they'll know how badass it is to have only four fears. I guess they'll never know.

After the initiation process completed, all member of the dauntless faction (*minus the leader) got injected with simulation serum something. That's when the Dauntless attack begin! The dauntless attack is a little bit different from the book, some minor changes but it doesn't change the story much. Every member of dauntless faction start lining up to the Pit with their vacant gaze and picking up a weapon. In the movie, they added this scene where they shoot a divergent who didn't affected by the simulation serum. Then they headed to Abnegation by train. That part when Tris approached Four in the train and they hold hand is great.

Then they arrived in abnegation. The first thing that Tris did was finding her family. But she didn't find anybody in her home. Let's skip to the part where Eric thought that Four is under the influence of the simulation serum. It's fun to see this part played out in the movie, when Four point the gun after he taunt him, then they all point their gun to one another. Then Tris shot Eric after he said that she won't shoot him. Then they ran, but unfortunately Tris got shoot in the shoulder.

Not long after that, both of them are captured. They took Four away for an experiment and instructed to kill Tris because she's injured and can't be used in the experiment. In the book, they put Tris in a box that similar like the box in her fear landscape. But the movie maker is too lazy to make that part of book happened, so they just made some dauntless soldiers escort her out and have the dauntless soldier to point out their weapon to Tris' head. Then out of the blue, her mother showed up with a gun and saved her. Would it be awesome if my mom do the same? xD

They flee from the scene to where his father is. They are still pursued by some dauntless soldier. Then there's this part when Tris killed Will. That scene is as heartbreaking as it is in the book. And not long after that,  Tris' mother is dead too... (*In the book, her mother stormed at the door to create a diversion so Tris can escape the building in which she was captured).

Tris managed to find his father and his brother in the hideout.  That's when she met Markus, Tobias' father. I like this part when Tris met Markus and she just glared at him. But after that, they just make a strategy and headed to dauntless headquarter. (*In the book, they treated her injury first before they headed to dauntless headquarter.)

After they grabbed the train and jump to the roof, they reached the dauntless headquarter. Then she met Peter. And honestly, this is my favorite part :

Not long after that, Tris' Father sacrifice himself so they can proceed to the control room. OH MY GOD, VERONICA ROTH!!! YOU JUST KILLED TRIS' MOM A FEW MINUTES AGO!!! GIVE HER A BREAK!!!
Since Caleb is having a breakdown, Tris proceed to the control room alone.

This part in the control room is pretty different. In the book, it was just Four alone in the room and he was typing some stuff in the computer because they successfully hijacked him and he controlled the attack now.
But in the movie, the control room looked like an erudite laboratory with computers and some scientist running around. But the idea in this part is still the same... Four is under the simulation serum, Tris tried to wake him up, she failed miserably, then she point out the gun to her own head and BAM! Power of Love! Four is awakened. Then both of them tried to stop the simulation. Then there's also this part that's not in the book but I totally like, that part when Jeanine Matthew's hand get stabbed with a knife! That's brilliant! I didn't see that coming xD Then Tris inject the same simulation serum to Jeanine and Simulation = OFF.

And then they got to the train and the first movie ends here...

I would've enjoyed this movie more if I haven't read the book :/ The book is magnificent, but its movie adaptation is not really satisfying to be honest. I want to be biased with the fact that I've read the book first and I love it so I'll surely love the movie adaptation, but I don't really like it. The movie adaptation didn't do the book justice, but nevertheless I still kinda like it. Mixed feeling .__. but I guess this formula applied to this movie :
[ The original books > Its movie adaptation]
But hey, don't judge the book by its movie adaptation.
I hope the movie adaptation of Insurgent will be better than Divergent .__.

The only book-to-movie adaptation that I really enjoyed was Catching Fire. Minor changes, but they got the book right! Maybe I'll write about it later xD

So, have you watched this movie? What do you think?
